Bringing Cleaner, Healthier Water to Every Home

What Is a Whole-House Water Softener?

A whole-house water softener treats all the water entering your home, removing the hardness minerals like calcium and magnesium that cause scale buildup. We install the Excalibur Chlor-A-Soft® Series Water Softener Plus — a combination system that softens water and removes chlorine and volatile organic chemicals from municipal water at the same time. The result is softer water at every tap, without the chlorine taste and odor, from a single compact system.

When Is a Whole-House Water Softener Necessary?

You may need a whole-house water softener if you’re noticing soap scum on your dishes, dry skin after showers, or limescale buildup on fixtures and appliances. On city water, chlorine taste and odor usually come along with the hardness — which is why we recommend the Chlor-A-Soft®, one system that handles both. If your home is on a well, a different setup is usually the better fit; see our Well Water Solutions page.

What Is Required For Whole House Water Softener Systems?

To install a whole-house water softener, all you need is a little space near your main water line — the Chlor-A-Soft®’s compact one-piece cabinet design fits where bulkier systems won’t, and we’ll handle the rest. Once it’s running, the fully programmable system meters your exact water usage and only regenerates when needed, using as little as 2.5 lbs of salt and 17 gallons of water per cycle — about 80% less salt than a traditional softener. It runs on safe 12-volt power for less than $3 a year in electricity, and it’s backed by Excalibur’s 20-year unlimited warranty.
